San Juan County voters, with 53% of ballots turned in, will apparently approve both San Juan County’s proposed property tax levy lid lift, and the San Juan Island Park and Recreation District’s proposed increased tax levy, County Communications Program Manager Stan Matthews reported on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

On Orcas Island, the formation of a new Orcas Island Park and Recreation District (Orcas Rec) was also approved.

County voters also approved the more stringent fireworks ordinance adopted by the County Council in 2008, an ordinance which had been challenged by referendum.

In state-wide measures, voters rejected Tim Eyman’s latest initiative and approved the State’s “everything but marriage” domestic partnership law.

With only 53% turnout so far, San Juan County Auditor Milene Henley estimates that another 1200 ballots will be received and processed in the next few days, but predicts that no results will be changed by the additional votes.
