Borealis String Quartet, last performed on Orcas in 2006

Orcas Center will present one performance only of the Borealis String Quartet on Saturday, June 26 at 7:30 pm.

One of the most dynamic and exciting world-class ensembles of its generation, the Borealis String Quartet returns to Orcas after a popularly-received performance in 2006. They have received critical acclaim as an ensemble praised for its fiery performances, passionate style, and refined, musical interpretation. Having played together since 2000, the group is String Quartet in Residence at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

The Borealis has received enthusiastic acclaim from audiences in major cities in North America, including New York, where they played to a sold-out audience for the Schneider Concerts Series at The New School. As well as extensive performing, the quartet is frequently heard on CBC Radio and other radio stations across North America and Asia. Devoted to performing other chamber music repertoire, the Borealis has collaborated with many different artists, including members of the Borodin, Emerson, and Tokyo String Quartets.

This Orcas engagement was originally scheduled for June 13, but the Quartet was invited to make an extensive tour of Taiwan. For their June 26 performance at Orcas Center, the Borealis String Quartet will perform Quartet No. 1 by Imant Raminsh, Schubert’s Quartet No. 12 in C minor, and Beethoven’s Quartet in E minor, Op. 59, No. 2, “Razumovsky”.

Tickets for the 7:30 pm concert are $24, $16 for Orcas Center members, and $10 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 360/376-2281 ext 1 during box office hours, Thursday-Saturday, noon – 4 pm.
