Rob Tucker returns to coach Orcas students

Percussionist Rob Tucker will be visiting Orcas Public Schools during the week of March 7th – 11th as part of Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival’s Musician-in-Residence program.  Tucker will work primarily with Martin Lund’s band students, and the focus will be on percussion.

Known as one of the busiest percussionists in the Pacific Northwest, Tucker is currently the director of the percussion department at Western Washington University in Bellingham.   He has performed as principal percussionist with the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera, and as principal timpanist with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra. Tucker has played timpani and percussion on more than 100 major motion picture soundtracks.  A founding member of the Pacific Rims Percussion Quartet and Quake, Rob is a respected proponent of new music.

Each year, the Chamber Music Festival brings highly skilled musicians to work with music students K-12 through its IM: In Music initiative, working in partnership with the support of the Music Advocacy Group. This innovative arts education program provides skills building opportunities, mentoring and inspiration for island musicians and teachers.

In addition, Rob Tucker will conduct a Master Class for community musicians on Wednesday, March 9th from 6 – 7pm in the Music Room at Orcas Public School.

Private sessions can also be arranged.  The cost for the adult classes is $20.

To register for the Master Class March 9th, or for a private class, please contact OICMF Executive Director Victoria Parker at 376-6636 or victoria@oicmf.org.
