On Thursday, February 16, 2012 at about 6:30 a.m., San Juan 9-1-1 received a report of a two-vehicle, rollover collision at the intersection of Orcas and Crow Valley Roads on Orcas Island.
The 35-year-old male driver of a 1995 Mitsubishi Montero was trapped in the rolled-over SUV and had to be extricated from the vehicle. That driver suffered serious injuries in the crash, and was airlifted to a mainland hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. A female passenger in the Montero was treated by medics at the scene and released.
The other vehicle, a 1987 Nissan Maxima, suffered major front end damage in the crash. The male driver of that vehicle, Gary Shawn Mobley, 42 of Eastsound fled the scene of the crash on foot and has not been located.
The cause and circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash or Mobley’s whereabouts should call the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office at 378-4151.
