A passer-by on Crescent Beach Road came across a small brush fire today at approximately 4:20 p.m., alerting a response from Orcas Island Fire & Rescue.
Upon arrival, responding units found that the fire, on the beach side of the roadway, also involved a downed power line.
OPALCO was dispatched to the scene to shut down the power before the fire could be extinguished. Once that was accomplished, fire units were able to extinguish the fire, which involved only a couple of pieces of driftwood.
The roadway remained closed until approximately 6:30 p.m. while OPALCO crews re-strung the power lines.
There were no injuries reported and power has been restored to the area.
