The Orcas Animal Shelter is presenting The Dog Days of Summer on Sunday, September 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with shows by the K9 Kings. There will also be train rides around the property, a bounce house hosted by the Orcas PTSA, and a beer garden featuring Island Hoppin’ Brewery. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
There is a suggested donation of $10 per adult and entry is free for kids 13 years and younger. All donations will benefit the shelter. Dogs are welcome to attend but must be on leashes at all times. Owners are responsible for picking up waste.
The K9 Kings Flying Dog Show features acrobatic canines doing tricks and routines with handler J.D. Platt. It is a mix of high-flying entertainment, music, comedy and audience participation. The dogs are also available afterwards to meet audience members. Show times are 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for the half-hour performances. Bring folding chairs or blankets to watch the show.
For the past 21 years, Platt and his pooches have brought their program to millions around the country. Platt also competes at disc dog events and has earned numerous titles. He was featured on Animal Planet’s “Pet Star” and appeared on the CBS show “Greatest American Dog,” where more than 100 million people saw him compete for $250,000 with his dog Galaxy.
