Our neighbors at Doe Bay Resort & Retreat have kept a low profile and isolated their off-island guests for the last year as a health and safety protocol. Although they canceled Doe Bay Fest in ’20 and ’21, they have continued to support artists and musicians. Joe & Maureen Brotherton decided to pay the Doe Bay Fest musicians even though the festival was not possible.
They instituted the Doe Bay Artist in Residence program with some of the top artists in the northwest and the country staying a week at a time at the resort all summer.
It was an intentionally low key success last summer and they are doing it again this year. Most of the musicians have been anxious to perform for some live faces, so weekends at Doe Bay often include a picnic area for café takeout in front of the impromptu “stage” on the yoga studio porch. It is reserved for on-site guests and Doe Bay Café guests. You can view the schedule online, and call 360-376-8059 to make a reservation.
Orcas Center and Doe Bay have joined together to have several of the Doe Bay Artists in Residence perform in Eastsound for a Summer Concert Series. This is a tremendous opportunity for Orcas islanders to see these talented performers live and outdoors. View upcoming events on OrcasCenter.org.
