||| FROM DIANE MARTINDALE for SAN JUAN ISLANDS MUSEUM OF ART |||

Many of you have been waiting for this moment and now it is here! The roll out of this program to the community and visitors was delayed by the pandemic. The wait is over. The San Juan Islands Museum of Art (SJIMA) is now offering tours during regular museum hours.

My Heart is Open by Winnie Brumsicle with Docent Elizabeth Thomas

Led by an experienced docent, private tours offer an in-depth look at the museum’s exhibitions, bringing a rich conversation about the art and artists on view. Arrange your visit to explore a specific theme, special exhibit or to experience increased exposure to art.

At SJIMA now through May 31 is the popular Artists’ Registry Show. Over 60 artists from the San Juan County islands exhibit their best new studio work which include paintings, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, glass work, printmaking and more!

Steve Jensen‘s Voyager transforms the Atrium Gallery, imbuing it with light and the aesthetic traditions of his Norwegian forebears. For him the image of the boat symbolizes a voyage or journey, possibly to the “other side” or into the unknown. His exhibit is also on view until May 31.

Tours can be customized to meet your group’s needs. To explore this program, go to https://sjima.org/visit/ to check SJIMA’s available dates and hours. Then fill out a request form at sjima.org/sjima-docent-request/ at least 2 weeks in advance. We will respond to your request within three business days. Reserve you tour now for visits starting April 25.

Student tours for K-5th grade groups require a ratio of one chaperone per five students. For 6-12th grades we require a minimum of one chaperone per ten students. All students under the age of 18 are admitted free. Chaperones pay the entry fee if not a museum member.
