from Clay Parsons
Friday evening, April 13, Deer Harbor Community Club (DHCC) members dedicated a new sign and historic plaque.
The free standing wood sign, approximately 9 ft. X 6 ft. in size, is located in the center of the Community Club lawn facing Deer Harbor Road and replaced an old sign which had fallen into acute disrepair.
The new sign and plaque was designed by Clay Parsons, a DHCC Board Member, and built by Dwight Guss of Avalon Construction. Special routed lettering was done by Chris Betcher of Chris Betcher Woodworking. The sign was recently installed by a volunteer community club crew.
The historic bronze plaque, which can be seen mounted on the exterior wall of the building adjacent to the front door, contains a synopsis of important dates in the long history of the Deer Harbor Community Club, the building, and the local community. Clay Parsons designed the plaque. Long time island resident Cal McLachlan served as an invaluable source of important dates and additional historic information and Dwight Guss did the delicate carpentry required to mount the plaque to the building. The plaque was made by Bronze International Inc. of Long Island, New York.
Board Member and Past DHCC President Bev Polis served as the Master of Ceremonies for the Dedication.
After the ceremony club members moved into the community club for a potluck dinner.
If you have never been to a potluck dinner at the DHCC they have the best food on the island. After dinner Grace McCune and Carolyn Cruso presented an inspired performance of their music and received a standing ovation ! If you have the opportunity, go and see them perform. They are truly extraordinary.
