— from John Van Lund —

captureCrews will place rebar and form the wing walls for the east and west abutments. The east and west abutments are the main structural supports for the bridge. The wing walls will extend off the ends of each abutment to contain gravel fill, which creates a transitional surface between the abutment and solid ground. Work continues to progress despite the wet weather conditions.

Just a heads up:

Around mid-December, seven girders will be shipped from Tacoma up I-5 via WSF to the jobsite. These girders weigh 92,000 lbs or 46 tons and are 78-ft long. After arriving at the site, they will be placed on the abutments. It will take a crane at each end to lift and place them. This will require closing Channel Road for at least one hour.

We see no other way around the closure and are still working on the details/schedule. You will be informed in advance at every step.

Again, we thank you for your patience and please drive safely.
