Dr. Melody Rose of Marylhurst University, Oregon

Dr. Melody Rose will give an Orcas Crossroads Lecture, “Leader of the Free World? The Future of American Women in Politics” on Saturday, October 18, at 4 p.m., at the Orcas Center.

Why has the U.S. not elected a woman to the Presidency? What are the hurdles and opportunities for women of either major party in reaching the nation’s highest office? With wit and wisdom, Dr. Rose, President of Marylhurst University and former Chancellor of the Oregon University System, unpacks the nuances of the American presidency, and reveals why we have yet to experience a female chief executive.

Rose coauthored (with Regina Lawrence, 2010) Hillary Clinton’s Race for the White House. Her most recent book is Women & Executive Office.
