Three of these new cases are on Orcas Island. San Juan County is currently investigating this case cluster to determine the source and scope of disease transmission.
On Monday, August 2nd, San Juan County staff went to Orcas Island to test close contacts of confirmed positive cases and those who tested positive from an over-the-counter test. Details of this case cluster are under investigation and more information may become available after the
case investigations are complete.

This morning I consulted the San Juan County Covid-19 Data Dashboard and learned that there are now NINE new cases on Orcas Island since August 3, with TEN active cases on the island. This is clearly a significant outbreak here that is almost certainly due to the Delta variant coronavirus. We need to know this information as soon as possible, after a sample from one of the early confirmed cases in late July has been sequenced. So far, I cannot tell from the state DoH Variant Report (of 8/4/21) and one other good source whether this sequencing has yet occurred. They show no Delta cases in the County.
