Lopez Island’s long-anticipated Swim Center opened this summer, and the County’s Public Works Department is working to safely connect the community to this exciting new resource.2026 October 7_

This month, Public Works crews installed a mid-block pedestrian crossing on Lopez – the first of its kind by the County. The crosswalk bridges School Road, facilitating safer access from the Lopez Island Middle and High Schools to the Lopez Swim Center. This new crossing includes a rapid flashing beacon with a push-button, pedestrian signage, and crosswalk striping.

“We’re thrilled to provide a safe crossing for kids making their Pool-to-School commute,” said John Schade, Project Manager.
