During the November 3 Council meeting, a proclamation was issued recognizing November 2025 as Veteran and Military Families Month in San Juan County. In addition to the proclamation, the Council discussed theå work of the County’s Veterans Advisory Board and thanked local advocates for their work.
“We’re very lucky in this county because we have more money to give our veterans than other counties do, so we’re able to support some really needy families,” said Council Chair Kari McVeigh, who sits on the Veterans Advisory Board as the Council liaison. “I’ve been incredibly moved by the Veterans Advisory Board and the work that they do to help our veterans.”
There are an estimated 2,500 veterans who call the San Juan Islands home. In an effort to take care of those who have taken care of us, San Juan County has established a Veterans Advisory Board and a Veterans Assistance Fund. The Veterans Assistance Fund provides timely services to eligible veterans and/or their immediate families who are in urgent financial need.
Local veterans and their families can learn more about the fund and apply for services on the County’s website or email veterans@sanjuancountywa.gov.
The County recognizes the significant role veterans and their families play in supporting our country and enriching our community. We invite the public to join us in recognizing and celebrating these important members of our military community.
