United Way of San Juan County is pleased to announce that more than $152,60 was raised during their 2009 campaign. As a result of the generous support of Islanders, thirty-one local programs providing essential services for individuals and families were funded. We were able to give grants to agencies focusing on education, health and wellness, recreation, mentoring programs and services for seniors, just to name a few. These programs benefit a wide array of island residents; from toddlers to seniors.

The United Way would like to thank each of their donors for contributing so generously despite the difficult economic climate. Needs last year were higher than ever, and they expect that trend to continue. To reach the need of next year’s program requests, they have set a goal for the 2010 campaign at $250,000. If you can contribute time or resources to help United Way reach their 2010 goal, please contact Director Joy Goldberg at 378-4121 or unitedwaysjc@rockisland.com or one of our Board Members: Candace Bodenhamer, Orcas; Dr. Carol Vincent-Hall, President, Orcas; Howard Schonberger, SJI; Marty Huleatte, Secretary, SJI; Meg Singer, Lopez Island; Roxanna Shively, Treasurer, Lopez Island; Susan Lembke, SJI; William Morrissey, SJI; Marta Nielson, Orcas.
