Jeffrey Lloyd Wasnick
(August 1, 1953 – March 1, 2009)

Jeffrey “Jeff” Lloyd Wasnick, 55, of Anacortes, died March 1, 2009 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mt. Vernon following a heart attack.

Jeff joined the county as a code enforcement officer in June of 2005

County administrator Pete Rose, in notifying the County staff of his passing called Wasnick, “One of the truly good guys in this county government.”

He said, “For someone whose job was often to tell someone they can’t do something, Jeff was recognized as one of the nice guys here at the county and known for his ability to work with people.”

The son of Lloyd & Marianne (Pribble) Wasnick, he was born on August 1, 1953 in Crystal, Minnesota. He graduated from Cooper High in New Hope, Minnesota with honors. He received a degree in forestry from the University of Minnesota, where he played Gopher Hockey.

He and his family moved to Northern Minnesota, where he worked as a forester for the state of Minnesota for 26 years.

He then moved to the state of Washington where he was a code enforcement officer for Planning and Development of San Juan County. Jeff loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of time hunting, fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed spending time in his boat in the San Juan Islands, walking on the beaches and hiking in the mountains. Listening to music is something he also enjoyed.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Jeff loved to spend time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marianne Wasnick and a brother, Larry Wasnick. Survivors include his significant other, Roxane L. Goss, of Anacortes; son, Mychal Wasnick of Chanhassen, MN, daughter, Jamie Wasnick (James Sanders) of Grand Rapids, MN; step-sons, Justin Cowan (Cyndy) and Shane Cowan (Melissa); grandchildren, Rhory, Sammie, Korrin, Brendin and Brandon; and his sister, Linda Browning.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Jeff please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com
