On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the San Juan County Council voted to submit a proposal to voters that would [intlink id=”raise-property-taxes-the-public-weighs-in-at-town-hall” type=”post”]raise property taxes[/intlink], beginning in 2010.
The Council determined the basic rate requested to be 12 cents, and to limit the increase to a temporary (6) years.
Therefore, the Council defined the increase or “levy lid lift” to increase by 12 cents per $1,000 of property values, with a total maximum rate of 60 cents/$1,000 in 2010. The Council also provided that the levy could be increased for five subsequent years.
