Friday, April 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the San Juan Island Grange
The County Council candidates in the April 23 election will be participating in candidate debates from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5 at the San Juan Island Grange in Friday Harbor (walking distance from the ferry). There will be three half-hour debates, one for each residency district. This event is sponsored by San Juan Islander.
Janice Peterson, who has taught debate at the college level and has experience moderating debates, will be the moderator. Carolyn deRoos will be the time keeper. The candidates have been given the questions which were written by San Juan Editor Sharon Kivisto with input from others.
The schedule:
5:30 p.m. District 3 Residency District – Lopez/Shaw Islands
Council member Jamie Stephens will debate candidate Brian McClerran.
6 p.m. District 2 Residency District – Orcas/Waldron
Council member Rick Hughes will debate candidate Lisa Byers
6:30 p.m. District 1 Residency District – San Juan Island/Stuart
Council member Bob Jarman will debate candidate Lovel Pratt.
Each of the candidates will make an opening and closing statement.This event will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.
