To provide a memorable and impactful experience to youth on San Juan Island, Compass Health is participating in a campaign to raise $5,000 to send children and young teens served through the organization’s Child and Family Outpatient program to Camp Orkila, a popular camp experience for kids from grades 3 to 10.

The campaign is part of the San Juan Island Community Foundation’s (SJICF) 2022 County Fair Grant Program. From Wednesday, August 17 through Saturday, August 20, community members will have the opportunity to donate to local non-profits, including Compass Health, with the first $1,000 in donations being matched dollar-for-dollar by the Community Foundation.

“Summer camps help kids build lifelong friendships and social skills, all while enjoying fun outdoor activities,” said Anthony Terndrup, Program Manager at Compass Health. “Sadly, many of the kids enrolled in our Child and Family Outpatient program have never attended a summer camp due to lack of financial resources or unique family circumstances. Providing them with the opportunity to take part in this life experience will have long-lasting benefits on their health and wellbeing.”

Compass Health’s Child and Family Outpatient program provides an array of counseling and support services to families with children and youth who may have emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Services within this program are designed to promote positive changes in behavior, help the child and family learn appropriate coping skills, and improve communication skills including learning to resolve conflict and manage emotions in a healthy manner.

For those interested in donating to Compass Health’s campaign to raise funds to send kids to Camp Orkila, contributions must be made during the four days of the 2022 County Fair, taking place between August 17 and August 20. Members of the community can donate in-person at the SJICF fair booth, online at www.sjicf.org/fair, by phone to SJICF at 360-378-1001, or by mailing a check payable to SJICF (dated between August 17 – 20) with Compass Health in the memo line to P.O. Box 1352, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. For more information on how to donate, www.sjicf.org/fair.
