Benefit dinner will be held at the Deer Harbor Community Club on Thursday, August 13, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50, available by calling 376-6805
— from Kevan Rayne —
Many of you know Mike Speece as a musician, mechanic, all around great guy, and true friend. About two weeks ago, Mike was a passenger in an ATV involved in a rollover accident, resulting in a severe injury, which will keep him inactive and in rehabilitation for at least a couple of months. Over the past two weeks he has undergone three surgeries at Harborview to mend his ankle and leg.
He was released and is now recovering at Life Care Center in Friday Harbor, before being able to return to Orcas Island.
Since Mike will not be able to work for several months, and will have no income, he and Diane are in need of financial assistance. Here is how you can help:
- A bank account has been established for donations at Islanders Bank in Eastsound. Contributions should be sent to: “Help Mike Speece Recovery Fund”, PO Box 57, Deer Harbor, WA 98243.
- A benefit dinner will be held at the Deer Harbor Community Club on Thursday, August 13, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $50, available by calling 376-6805. Advance ticket purchase is preferred, but a small number will be available at the door. Includes musical entertainment and wine by donation. Please note, this dinner is in lieu of the regular DHCC August potluck.
- A benefit performance by local musicians is being planned at Random Howse on September 11.
Just a month ago, Mike and Diane bought a small place in Eastsound that needs some improvements before it can be occupied. Friends of Mike from the Deer Harbor Community Club, where he has volunteered his time for years, and others, are helping with preparing Mike’s home for his continuing recovery when he is ready to come back to Orcas Island.
For Benefit Dinner tickets or to help with preparing Mike’s home, please call 360-376-6805 or email pam@dansker.com.
Mike appreciates visitors at Life Care Center, 660 Spring St, Friday Harbor, Room 141. You can reach Mike at 360-298-4870.
Thanks to all who are willing and able to help Mike and Diane.
