— from the San Juan Conservation District —

Community Solar for our Schools was developed by Islands Energy, a collaborative group of local and regional nonprofits and community volunteers led by the San Juan Islands Conservation District and sponsored by OPALCO.

The intent of Community Solar for our Schools is to install four solar-electric systems at Lopez, Orcas, San Juan, and Shaw island schools.

There will be no cost to the school districts for the purchase or installation of the solar-electric systems. All the energy generated will be donated to the school districts, lowering their electricity costs.

Bonneville Environmental Foundation will provide educational curriculum, teacher training, and science kits for each school to support school science programs relating to renewable resources.

Participation by our community is fundamental. To participate you need to be a resident or business owner within OPALCO’s service area.

We are asking our community members to purchase a $100 solar unit to support this program. You may purchase more than one, in fact we hope that you will!

This $200,000 program is currently 35% funded by partners and community. With your help, we expect to reach our funding goal and begin the installation process in early 2015.

You can enroll on-line at www.sjislandscd.org or for further questions email us!
