From the Orcas Choral Society
Tomorrow night, November 10, there will be an extraordinary event on Orcas — a “community sing” with choral legend Alice Parker. Everyone is invited to come and join in singing!
The Community Sing will be at Orcas Island Community Church on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. A $10 donation is requested but not required — everyone is encouraged to come and sing.
The more people we can get together at the Community Church, the more fun it will be for all of us!
The Alice Parker event is an outreach program of The Orcas Choral Society. It is an extraordinary opportunity to have an event with someone of Alice Parker’s stature and reputation on Orcas. We hope you can join us!
Alice says that she sang before she spoke—an appropriate beginning for a career that has spanned almost six decades and has been devoted to the creation of works for the human voice.
She began composing at the age of five, and wrote her first orchestral score while still in high school. Now a resident of western Massachusetts, Alice has published books on melodic styles, choral improvisation, and “Good Singing in Church.” Five videos have been released showing her work with hymns and American folksongs.
American Record Guide said: “Alice Parker is a national treasure.”

Save me a spot! I’m coming (from Portland) to Orcas that weekend to celebrate my birthday….which is Nov. 10th. What a perfect birthday gift for a life-long choral singer. Thank you, Orcas and the Orcas Choral Society!
This is a real treat! It’s only three hours away now, but I hope some folks see this and will attend. I’ve known of Alice Parker for decades. What an experience to have her here. Thank you, Orcas Choral Society!
