From the Orcas Island Community Foundation

Nonprofit “Board Boot Camp” is just around the corner!

Board Boot Camp is an intensive four hour workshop on the essential skills and attitudes for effective service on a not-for-profit board. With more than 80 nonprofit groups on Orcas, chances are you have been asked to serve on a board (or five.)  Board service is rewarding if the board functions well, and frustrating if it does not.   The Orcas Island Community Foundation is hosting Board Boot Camp led by Kate Janeway, President of Great Governance Group.

Ms. Janeway has served on numerous boards and has developed this highly regarded program.  Participants will learn about key roles and responsibilities, increase the likelihood of a productive experience, and enhance the organization’s ability to make a difference. The event is open to all, including those serving on boards, working for NPO’s, or merely interested in how nonprofits can work most effectively.

Board Boot Camp will run from 10-2 on Thursday, May 6th, at the Parish Hall, Emmanuel Episcopal Church.  The fee is $25 and includes lunch.  Please call the Community Foundation office, 376-6423, or e-mail Hilary Canty, hilary@oicf.us , to reserve a seat.
