Sunday, Sept. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Seaview Theater
— from Wendy Shinstine —
Tinker, your Mayor, would like to invite the community to take part in a gathering for looking at the health of the island.
We have systems in place for our Community needs that we are all proud of – our Food Bank, Volunteer Firefighters, Schools, Recycling Programs, and many many more. The community is now asking for a look into our island’s situation of needed drug prevention and healing.
We invite the groups who are already working towards these goals as well as ALL of our community members. Friends, parents, doctors, attorneys, counselors, officers, concerned neighbors, EMT’s and teachers. We need a very broad look at our beloved island and its needs.
Let’s discuss together what steps are currently being taken, our laws in Washington State, our medical and emotional supports, …and our hearts.
The Seaview has offered space for this gathering at a low cost. Donations will be warmly welcomed – not required.
Sunday September 9th from 3 – 5pm
At Seaview.
Please think about young children – they are welcome of course… however, this will be a very open discussion of all aspects of drug addictions.

So glad this conversation is happening. It’s very timely as the community is in the process of forming a coalition for the wellness of the youth on Orcas Island. The goals of this coalition are to decrease health and behavioral problems, such as drug use, anxiety and depression and increase the positive supports available in our community for youth and families. Additionally, the coalition seeks to bring all youth-serving organizations and stakeholders on Orcas to the same table, to reduce overlap of resources and identify gaps in services. If you are interested in learning more about this process, or would like to get involved, contact interim Coalition Coordinator Trillium Swanson at trillswa@gmail.com.
Are the candidates for sheriff and prosecuting attorney attending?
