UPDATE: February 23 from Sharon Abreu:

I’m sorry to report that, due to snow and treacherous-to-impossible driving conditions across the island, we’ve made the decision to postpone today’s “Celebrating Pete Seeger’s Life & Legacy” concert. We’ll reschedule for a couple of weeks from now – more on that shortly. When it does happen, it will be phenomenal.

Sunday, Feb. 23, 3-6 pm, Emmanuel Parish Hall

— from Sharon Abreu —

PeteSeeerLet’s celebrate Pete’s legacy together! Bring songbooks (like “Rise Up Singing” if you have it), instruments if you like, coffee/tea or snacks to share (gluten-free encouraged). Bring elders. Bring kids.

Local musicians include:

  • Irthlingz (Sharon Abreu and Mike Hurwicz)
  • Cali Bagby
  • Carl Burger
  • Marc Cohen
  • Carolyn Cruso
  • Bruce Harvie
  • The Olga Symphony
  • Children from the Salmonberry School

In true Pete Seeger form, any and all are welcome and encouraged to sing-along!

The concert is free. Donations are welcome to cover the cost of renting the space. If we raise more, we’ll donate it to two nonprofits: Indian Island Marine Health Observatory, and Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, founded by Pete and Toshi Seeger in 1966. (HRSC is a wonderful organization of which Carolyn Cruso and I, and possibly other locals, have been members.)

To request a song, lead a song, sign up to help with set up or clean up, or learn more about Pete Seeger, you can contact me by email or phone at 5773.

Come and add your voice as we celebrate the life and legacy of this great man and musician!
