Wildlife photographer Lynn Karns will share at the Orcas Island Community Church’s annual ladies’ luncheon on Saturday, May 14 at the Orcas Island Senior Center.
Lynn believes that everyone has the gift of being creative – whether in the way you landscape, dress, mother, or do your daily work.
“When we allow ourselves to be curious and imaginative, it helps us to become more self-confident and courageous in what we do,” she says. “It helps us to say, ‘I can do that!’ Finding God’s nature in us is pretty empowering.”
Karns lives in La Conner, WA with her husband David. A retired english, journalism, and photography instructor, Karns has taught at Arizona’s Grand Canyon University and in high schools. She fell in love with photography early on, while fulfilling her zest for adventure by teaching english in northern Japan, and it has been a lifelong passion for her.
“Nature really celebrates creativity and diversity,” says Karns. “God is the ultimate creator, but we are all given a creative spirit and nature.”
Karns also loves working in women’s ministries, and has led Bible studies, workshops, and retreats.
She was recently featured in Anacortes Magazine in a story titled, “The Call of the Wild with Lynn Karns. (www.anacortes.net/anacortes-blogs/2015/11/the-call-of-the-wild-with-lynn-karns/)
Some of her photography can be viewed online at lynnkarns.zenfolio.com/.
The luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Senior center chef Jay Savell will be preparing halibut or chicken, Caesar salad, wild rice pilaf, asparagus and crème brulèe. Karns’ photography work will be displayed at the luncheon, and each lady attending will receive a special gift of Karns’ work.
Tickets are $20. To reserve your spot, call organizer Susan Clark at 376-7046 or email stclark@rockisland.com.
