On Thursday, March 1, 2012, at approximately 8:10 a.m. Orcas Fire and Rescue quickly extinguished a fire in the bathroom of a home in a triplex apartment building located at 443 Pine Street in Eastsound.

The occupant of the home, woke to the sound of fire crackling and saw smoke and flames coming from his clothing dryer located in the bathroom of his home.  He safely exited the structure and fire dispatch was called.

The were no occupants in the adjoining apartments and no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature originating in the clothing dryer with extensive smoke damage confined to the apartment of origin.

Orcas Island Fire and Rescue recommends checking dryer vents for excessive lint and be sure to clean lint screens following each drying cycle.

Be safe!
