Meet & Greet with Dr. Buxbaum
Island Primary Care – Orcas is excited to introduce Dr. Buxbaum to the community on Tuesday, November 29, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Orcas Public School cafeteria. Snacks and drinks will be provided on this special night to get to know your local pediatrician!
Evan Buxbaum MD, MPH is a board certified pediatrician serving the children and adolescents of Orcas Island and San Juan County. His approach to pediatric care considers the entire child, encompassing their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as the family structure in which they live and thrive.
His general pediatrics practice includes child and sick visits as well as the management of more complex pediatric conditions such as asthma, allergy and eczema, chronic diseases in childhood, and mental and behavioral health. A graduate of Duke University Medical School and the University Of North Carolina School Of Public Health, Dr. Buxbaum has been practicing pediatrics for over 20 years. He and his wife Valerie are very happy to have returned to Orcas with their daughter and their big dog. We hope you can join us!
Diabetes Management: RetinaVue for Diabetic Retinopathy
Effective management of diabetes for our patients includes routine eye exams. Island Primary Care – Orcas has purchased point-of-care testing equipment that enables us to easily perform retinal exams during clinic visits. These exams acquire images without chemical dilation. Images are securely transferred to Board Certified Ophthalmologists for evaluation. Diagnostic reports and referral plans, if indicated, are sent back to our clinic providers within one day of the exam. This is just one way we strive to provide
exceptional care to our community.
On-the-Job Medical Training Program A Big Success
Island Primary Care – Orcas started an on-the-job medical assistant training program earlier this year, and it has proven to be a big success. The clinic training program continues to be a positive experience for the organization and for staff who want to grow in the medical field. The newest enrollee wants to become a family practice doctor and has chosen to join IPC – Orcas for experience to fulfill his goal! Health Education Year-End Offerings
Get ready for the holidays with Amber Phillips, MS, RD, with her Healthy Eating for the Holidays class on November 17. We will also be offering online courses in breastfeeding support, aging in place, and managing high cholesterol.
