— from BA Keller —
As world leaders gather at the UN for the World Climate Summit, citizens will be gathering on the streets of NYC to join the People’s Climate March on Sept. 21. The Northwest rally at the Peace Arch Park on September 20 from 1-3pm is sponsored by the The Wilderness Committee, 350 Seattle, and the Georgia Strait Alliance.
It is also a part of the the commemoration of a treaty signing: the Coast Salish Nations have drafted the International Treaty to Protect the Sacredness of the Salish Sea. The International Treaty will enable the Coast Salish Nations and their allies, the Nawt-sa-maat Alliance, to speak with one voice regarding tankers, ports and pipelines. The Alliance is calling communities to participate in Four Days of Action to mobilize cross-cultural and international action and heighten awareness of the increased risks and threats to the Salish Sea from the proposed Kinder Morgen Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion in British Columbia.
