Tuesday, May 5, 5 – 7 p.m., Senior Center

— by Lin McNulty —

Not to be confused with Mexican Independence (which is September 16), May 5 is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Mexican Americans also often see the day as a source of pride; one way they can honor their ethnicity is to celebrate this day.

To celebrate this day, all are invited to a Mexican-themed Community Potluck tomorrow (May 5) from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Orcas Senior Center.

The day also happens to be the birthday of Jami Mitchell, the new Senior Center Manager, who is more than excited about the celebrating her birthday with the community, and loves that her birthday falls on a day when folks are in a celebratory mood.
