Choral singing is a team sport – come learn how to play

||| FROM ORCAS CHORAL SOCIETY |||

Bruce Langford, Artistic Director of Orcas Choral Society, will conduct a Choral Singing Workshop from 2:00-4:00 pm on Wednesday, July 31 in Eastsound at the Emmanuel Parish Hall, 242 Main Street.

Beginning and experienced singers are welcome to come learn the essence of singing together in a choir. We will learn to sing in varying rhythms, on pitch, and with resonance. Just like in any team sport we will learn via active practice, connect with others, get some healthy exercise, and have fun along the way.

Bruce Langford brings a wealth of experience as an educator and choral conductor to Orcas Island, leading the Orcas Choral Society through two seasons of glorious music. After receiving music degrees from the California Institute of the Arts and Southwestern School of Music, he served as a professor of music history and voice at Citrus College in California for over 25 years.

He also has performed with and directed numerous musical ensembles and theatrical productions throughout the U.S. and abroad, including local productions of La Cage aux Folles and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He has appeared as a guest lecturer and published articles on music and the arts.

When asked about his love of choral music Mr. Langford said, “Happiness doesn’t come from having things. It comes from being a part of things. Any kind of creativity brings its own kind of satisfaction. But the joy of creating something together results in a special bond. Not only with each other, but with composers and their genius. There is nothing like tapping into the timelessness that comes with every rehearsal and performance of great choral music.”

Orcas Choral Society presents this workshop to spread the joy of singing together. All you need to bring is your voice! This workshop is for high school-age teens and adults of all ages and is free of charge. Contact orcaschoral@gmail.com to sign up.
