Internet service has been restored to San Juan Islands. The root cause of the outage is still being investigated but services are no longer impacted. The cause appears to have been a fiber switching issue on the mainland.

CenturyLink is experiencing a possible fiber issue that is impacting high speed data service in the San Juan Islands. 911 and phone services are not impacted.
CenturyLink technicians are on route to investigate and initiate any needed repair. Currently only residential and business data customers are impacted. We will be sending out more details as they come available

Your headline is a bit overstated I believe! CenturyLink’s fibreoptics problems affecting the county go way beyond one switching problem on one specific day. Service outages happen regularly, good luck getting an actual person on the phone – much less one that has any idea where the San Juan Islands are, or even the state of Washington – and provided service speeds are a joke every day.
