First I want to say how competent the local Century Link providers/technicians on Orcas Island are and from my experience having lived over 24 years I do not have a
complaint
The issue of the broken cable is a Century Link company problem. It seemed that somewhat levels of service were OK for me(and presume others)until late afternoon Oct 13th. My phone is dead, no local or long distance service. I had some important calls to make long distance having talked long distance earlier in the afternoon.
I feel Century Link owes its customers some form of compensation for the lack of service. Unless an Act of God caused this problem what is Century Link willing to compensate its customers for its lack of Service??

Jim,
KING TV has a story – https://www.nbcnews.com/id/53547984/ns/local_news-seattle_wa/#.UoQvRuLBOys – that says voice services went down while they were trying to install equipment to increase capacity.
Wednesday, 6:11 pm and our home landline is working again.
I can call the home line from our Verizon cell and vice versa.
Whew!
My landline went dead early this evening. I heard that the same happend at some Eastsound businesses.
Thank you Orcas Issues for providing this to the moment info.
Well local calls are back and Long Distance. Can`t connect to a daughter`s ATT cell on Island.
It still appears that Century Link had no back up for a severed cable or damaged. If an Act of God then that`s something that Century Link had no control over. I am sure CL is doing all they can- but they still had no back-up plan in place should a cable be broken etc.
Should there be compensation- well depends on what happened and if there could have been a interim back up. Perhaps that was not possible. Regardless I pray for those trying to remedy a fix- it is very dangerous.
And very glad that we had a source for info- Thanks Lin et all
I did lose a few hundred dollars when clients from other cities and countries were unable to call for their long distance guiding sessions. However, I see it as part of life and not as something to blame the service for and be “compensated” for natural disruptions. CenturyLink’s costs to fix the problem are large enough.

I went to the Senior Center as soon as I got off work at 5:30. There were CenturyLink trucks in the parking lot but the doors were closed & locked & I could not see people inside.
Thea, The presentation started at 3:00 and finished at around 4:00. Centurylink personnel were there when I left at 4:30 or so, to chat and answer other questions. I presume people filed out early so CL left.
