Farm to Cafeteria volunteers process the harvest of island farms

Farm to Cafeteria volunteers process the harvest of island farms at its Fifth Season event last month

On Sunday, October 4 Orcas Island will host a Farm Tour with over a dozen farms participating. You will be able to see all sorts of farm demonstrations including sheep shearing, wool spinning, seed saving, and see worms at work at a worm bin demo. Meet farmers who will talk about the historic orchards of Orcas, and a new community participatory agriculture project.

FARM TOUR SCHEDULE & INFO:
  • Brunch @ The Kitchen: 9:30 – 11:00 am; $15
  • Tour: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm; Free

This free, self-guided tour starts with a brunch available at The Kitchen in Eastsound, where you can pick up maps to the following farms: Morningstar Farm, Warm Valley Farm, Red Rabbit Farm, Orcas Moon Farm, Coffelt Farm, Kai Dawg Farm, West Beach Farm, Girl Meets Dirt, Smith and Speed Merchantile, Buck Bay Shellfish Farm, Doe Bay Garden at Doe Bay Resort, Taproot Farm, and Orcas Farm.

As Barbara Marrett of the San Juan Visitors Bureau wrote, “There is no better way to feel the pulse of island culture than to experience its food… experience the bounty of the islands at its peak.”
