— from Caroline Buchanan —
Watercolors of the island years by Caroline Buchanan will be displayed at the library for the month of April. Buchanan is calling the retrospective exhibit, “The Last Picture Show.” This is a chance to share with the Islanders paintings from her years in the Islands.
Buchanan and her husband, Jeffrey Unterschuetz, have listed their property on Obstruction Island for sale and plan to move to Anacortes. They have enjoyed thirty years of grand adventures as well as the peaceful solitude of an outer island. It has been a great run but are finding that nothing lasts forever.
An opening reception and a chance to visit with the artist will be held on Thursday, April 5, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Come to see the paintings and enjoy some refreshments.
Buchanan will continue to exhibit at Crow Valley Gallery on Main Street and Waterfront Gallery on Prune Alley next to Body, Boat and Blade. She plans to still hold some workshops on Orcas, only she will be the commuter. This year’s schedule is posted with descriptions at www.buchananwatercolors.com.

I should probably add that this painting was done by a student, Joanne Davis, after the class went to the Picasso exhibit at SAM. She said, “You know how Caroline gets into her paintings.”
Hope to see you at the reception!
