from Sheriff Nou & Assistant Fire Chief Preysz

Two Deer Harbor men escaped serious injury early Sunday morning when their car left Channel Road and traveled down the embankment and landed upside down in the waters of West Sound.

The driver was able to successfully exit the vehicle, but did not see the passenger. OIFR Assistant Chief Preysz reports the driver then re-entered the car and pulled the passenger to safety. Upon administering a few bear hugs, the driver was able to get the passenger breathing again.

Both were further assisted by citizens who heard the crash. The passenger was airlifted to a mainland hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol or other drugs are not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. Both men were properly restrained with safety belts. No citation was issued.
