from Sheriff Rob Nou
On Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at about 11:00 p.m. Gary Shawn Mobley, 42, of Eastsound surrendered to sheriff’s deputies on Orcas Island. Mobley had been the subject of an extensive search on Orcas after an early morning injury hit and run crash last Thursday.
Tips from the community kept deputies busy throughout the weekend in efforts to locate Mobley.
MOBLEY was arrested at the Orcas substation on an arrest warrant charging him with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Vehicular Assault, Felony Hit and Run, and Reckless Driving. Mobley was transported to Friday Harbor and lodged in jail pending a court appearance. His bail was set at $50,000.
The victim in the crash, a 35 year old male, remains in intensive care at a mainland hospital.
