— from Milene Henley, San Juan County Auditor —

The San Juan County Canvassing Board will hold a special meeting to review and adopt the Canvassing Board manual for San Juan County on Tuesday, June 4.

The County Canvassing Board provides oversight of elections in the county. Its duties include canvassing ballots, ruling on the validity of questioned or challenged ballots, verifying all unofficial returns, and producing the official county canvass report. The Canvassing Board is comprised of the County Auditor, Prosecuting Attorney, and Chair of the County Council.

The Canvassing Board manual is the administrative rules for guiding and governing the county’s election process. The manual is adopted and updated as needed in open public meetings. As with meetings of the County Council, all Canvassing Board meetings are advertised and open to the public.

The meeting to review the Canvassing Board manual will convene on June 4, 2019, at 8:15 a.m. in the San Juan County Elections office at 55 2nd St., Suite A, in Friday Harbor, WA. If necessary, the board may reconvene at 3 p.m. on June 4, 2019, in the same location.

All interested members of the public are invited to observe. For further information, contact the San Juan County Elections Office at (360) 378-3357.
