The League of Women Voters of the San Juan Islands invites the public to participate in their Candidate Forums for the General Election, Nov. 3, 2009. The forum will be held Oct.12 at the Orcas Senior Center from 5:30 to 7:30p.m.
All candidates running for the following positions have been invited:
Orcas School Board Directors
#1 :Jim Sullivan and Chris Sutton
#2 :Tony P. Ghazel and Robert Connell
SJC Fire Commissioners (Orcas Island)
#2 : Henry Duff “Andrews” and Clyde Duke
#3 : Barbara G. Bedell and Pierette Guimond
Eastsound Sewer and Water Commissioner #3 :
Harvey Aldort and Gregory M. Ayers
Orcas Island Park and Recreation Commissioner #1:
Marian O’Brien and Vicki Vandermay
In addition, the League of Women Voters has invited proponents and opponents of the Fireworks Referendum, the SJC Property Tax Levy, and the Orcas Island Park and Recreation Levy.
The format for these forums will be a three-minute opening statement followed by questions from the audience. The statement will be timed and questions moderated by a League member. Those who are are unable to attend may send a representative to read a prepared three minute statement; however, that representative will not be allowed to answer questions from the audience.
