Tuesdays, January 10 – February 7, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Senior Center

— from Carolyn Cruso —

On the heels of a very popular fall ukulele class and two well-received performances at the Seniors Have Talent Show, Carolyn Cruso offers another Beginning Ukulele class this winter. Presented by the Orcas Senior Center this class runs Tuesdays, January 10 through February 7 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. $25 for members and $75 for non-members.

Always wanted to learn how to play the ukulele? This class is for you! We will explore the basics of chord formation, strumming and fingerpicking. Starting with simple, well-known folk songs and moving into more varied genres, we will get moving quickly on this fun and social instrument. We will work both as a group and individually allowing students to progress at their own pace. The class will culminate in a short set (optional, though strongly encouraged) at the Senior Lunch on Wednesday February 8. A total of five classes. $75 for non-members, $25 for members. Bring your ukulele. Some loaners available thanks to the generosity of Four Winds Camp. Pre-register in person at the Senior Center or by calling 376-2677. The class is geared toward Beginners and Novices but Intermediate players will be accommodated as well.

The classes are taught by Orcas Islander Carolyn Cruso, multi-instrumentalist, performer, songwriter and music instructor. She has been teaching for 15 years, both privately and in workshop settings. She is currently a teacher at the Dusty Strings School of Music in Seattle and teaches privately on Orcas Island. She has taught ukulele at Four Winds Camp for the last four years.
