Conrad Wrobel, Stephen Baker and Kelsey Whitaker shake their stage-fright jitters before Orcas Idol 2009 auditions. This year, the Idol Competition will be Feb. 6 and music selection start this Wednesday from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the FunHouse. Adult auditions and Junior Idol selection will be Jan. 23 at the Grange.

This much awaited, must see, sell out event of the year is scheduled for Saturday, February 6th, 2010 at the Orcas Center at 6:30 pm.  Our talented local performers (individuals or duos) return for this island hit show, which is a lighthearted feel good version of American Idol.  The always-supportive audience gets to choose the next Orcas Idol by voting for their favorite singer by secret ballot as they perform either karaoke style, acapella or new for this year, singers may accompany themselves! The show is great community fun spiced with the humor of our colorful Masters of Ceremonies and judges.

The winner will receive a $200.00 cash prize donated by our island Radio Shack and a professional recording session!  Each year this show benefits a great cause, the Orcas Island Prevention Partnership (O.I.P.P.), which has been actively promoting a safe and healthy community free of substance abuse for the last nine years.

The show is open to all islanders who love to sing and perform.  Sign ups for the auditions will be held at the Funhouse on January 6TH from 3 to 6:30 p.m.  You may select your song from our karaoke disc library, bring your own disc or tell us the song you will perform with your instrument.

The adult auditions and the Idol Jr. Show happen at The Grange on January 23rd.

The Orcas Jr. kids (5th grade-8th grade) will light up the stage where their competition happens between 3 and 5 p.m. in the afternoon and a winner will be announced. The adult audition show begins at 7:30 p.m.  The Idol Jr. winner will perform for the adult final competition on Feb. 6th at the Orcas Center.
