Children’s Christmas Market: Handmade, affordable treasures by young artisans

Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 11am -2pm at Salmonberry School, across Henry Road from the Senior Center

 — from Salmonberry School —

With the holiday gift-giving season approaching it’s a perfect time for our MANY talented young artisans on Orcas to show and sell their wares. Any island child, from the ages 5 to 18, is encouraged to sign up for a $5 table at the first-ever Children’s Christmas Market on Orcas on 30 November 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Children’s Christmas Market will be hosted at Salmonberry School on the same morning as the Senior Center’s annual Christmas Bazaar, so it’s just a short walk across the road for shoppers to either event.

What fun it will be to see all the creativity that Orcas Island is nurturing. We are looking for original, handmade, and where possible naturally crafted items priced from 25 cents to $5. Greeting cards, drawings and pictures, hand carved wooden toys, felted soaps, beaded accessories, painted rocks, seashell and beach glass art, paper moustaches, and what else have you…let’s see them!

Guidelines:

  • Any island child aged 5 – 18 years can participate
  • Artwork and crafts for sale should be original, handmade, and where possible from natural materials or found objects.
  • Prices may be set up to a maximum of $5 per item.
  • Kids aged 8 and below must be accompanied by an adult during the sale.
  • Tables are assigned on a first come first served basis until registration is full.

Everyone is encouraged to shop at the Children’s Christmas Market, but we especially want younger shoppers to experience the excitement of finding, and being able to afford, that perfect gift for one of their friends or loved ones.

It’s going to be a fun, positive learning experience for you or your young artisan, a chance to meet other young artisans and, very possibly, earn some holiday cash for your own Christmas shopping. We have space for 25 tables, so contact Rachel Bishop at rachelbishop@yahoo.com or 376 5003 to reserve your space.

Please help us spread the word so that the young artisans will have more time to create. See you there!
