Orcas Island artist Carl Buttke will present an exhibit of his paintings throughout March in the Orcas Center lobby gallery.

The program, titled “Mostly Abstract,” will, as its name suggests, emphasize the range and variety of abstraction.  Dominating the show will be a very large (4-by-12-foot) watercolor painting, “The Alder Grove.”

In addition, the exhibit will include a series of village scenes from Europe and the San Juans, and a series of abstract non-representational works.

Local viewers are familiar with Buttke’s work, he having shown paintings at the Artworks Gallery, Key Bank and Crow Valley Pottery, as well as in galleries at Ketchum, Idaho, and Bend and Sisters, Oregon.  To view his paintings online, visit www.carlbuttke.com.

A reception Friday evening, March 5, will open the show, beginning at 5:50 p.m.
