||| FROM BEN LUNA for ORCAS ISLAND FIRE & RESCUE |||

Orcas Island Fire and Rescue (OIFR) will begin issuing burn permits for Orcas Island. Permits will be available starting October 12, 2026, if weather and conditions allow.

The process is online. Apply and pay at orcasfire.org. The site also has burn safety rules and requirements. You may also come to Station 21 at 45 Lavender Lane to purchase in-person.

Please note this is a new process and application portal from last year.

There are two types of permits. A Residential Burn Permit covers yard debris and brush piles. It is good for the full burn season and costs $10 plus a processing fee. A Commercial Burn Permit is for large land or vegetation clearing. OIFR must do an on-site safety check before you burn. It is good for 30 days after approval and costs $300 plus a processing fee.

Burning safely is a good way to clear yard waste and reduce wildfire fuel. With permits handled locally, OIFR can work directly with neighbors on seasonal cleanup.
