Lighting up the Senior Center Monday Luncheon was Joyce Burghardt, island treasure and activist.

Surrounded by family members and friends, Joyce celebrated her 95th birthday in a hat that even the Mad Hatter would envy.

Fabulous party for the party girl. This woman is still teaching water aerobics three times weekly as well as maintaining volunteer passions. Go Joyce!

OH GOLLY! I THINK I HAVE COMPLETELY RUN OUT OF ALL THE WORDS I need to say thank you to everyone for this fantastic year in my life. It ended with the most amazing birthday party at the senior center but the incredible party in April given by the Community Foundation last spring started the whole wonderful year. I cannot begin to tell you how surprised and thrilled by the gatherings and the kind words. A zillion thanks for the honors that also belonged to my terrific family – and especially the ones who are no longer with us. But it was a reminder that our unplanned move to buy Crescent Beach Cottages in the ’40s was one of our goofy but most wonderful decisions Galen and I made. The eleven years we had before that storm removed all the cabin roofs on the night before the opening day of hunting season (of course they were full of happy hunters) was an incredibly happy decade and cemented us to our love for the island and the remarkable people who make it so special. One of the Camp Fire songs we loved best was the one that was about an isle of enchantment – and that is what we all share. My heartfelt thanks to all . Joyce
