Brynna Gregg, a 10th grader from Orcas Christian School, took time away from her studies last week to participate in the Senate Page Program at the Washington State Legislature.
Gregg was one of 24 students ages 14 to 16 that took part in the program during the eight weeks of the 2012 legislative session. Pages deliver mail, run errands, present the flag and watch parliamentary procedures in action. Students also draft a bill and participate in a mock legislative session. Gregg drafted a mock bill that would ban plastic bags.
Gregg was sponsored by Sen. Kevin Ranker. “The page program offers a fun and rare, hands-on opportunity to learn about state government,” said Ranker. “I’m glad Brynna was able to take advantage of it.”
“I really enjoyed the page program,” said Gregg. “My favorite part of the program was meeting people from all over the state. I also enjoyed learning how much it takes for a bill to become a law.”
Gregg participates in soccer and is a member of the ASB at Orcas Christian School. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering at the library.
Gregg is the daughter of Steve and Michele Gregg of Eastsound.
