Brigid Ehrmantraut Graduates Princeton Summa Cum Laude

Brigid Kathleen Ehrmantraut graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University on June 5. She is a 2014 graduate of Orcas Island High School, and attended Salmonberry School. Brigid concentrated in Classics and earned a certificate in Medieval Studies. She received both the John H. Keaney Prize in Classics and the Joseph R. Strayer Prize in Medieval Studies for her senior thesis, entitled “’Fog on the Barrow-downs:’ Mythologization of Tumuli in 
Old Irish, Old English, & Insular Latin Literature.” At Princeton, Brigid studied Latin, Ancient Greek, Coptic, Old English, Old Irish, Old Norse, and a little Russian.

Brigid played viola with the Princeton University Sinfonia, which performed one of her original compositions. She helped found and was editor of figments, the University’s first speculative fiction magazine. She was president of the Cheese and Bad Movies Club, designed costumes for two student theater productions, and was involved in the campus LGBT+ Center and Natives at Princeton.

This summer, Brigid is learning Nahuatl (the language of the Aztecs and their descendants) at the University of Utah. She will be home on Orcas for a month, and will then head to England. She is ecstatic to be pursuing her M.Phil. at the University of Cambridge’s Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Studies, where she happily spent the spring term of her junior year.
