The 2010 Library Fair when it relocated at the Library on Rose Street

The Orcas Island Public Library will be the scene of the 58th Annual Library Fair on the second Saturday of August. For this year that makes it August 9. Location? At the Library itself. Time? 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What will you find there? Oh My! There will be thousands of books that have been donated since the Winter Book Sale last winter. The Friends of the Orcas Island Library have sorted them into categories and will display them this way for you. Feel free to browse through any and all of the categories or choose fiction (in hardback and paperback), children’s books, history, science, politics, religion, science fiction, cookbooks, and more. You get the idea. The Friends have eliminated books that have been written in extensively and/or are not in clean condition for you.

We will have shopping bags and boxes if you need them. For a small price you can purchase a purple Orcas Island Library carrying bag.

Books are donated throughout the year to the Friends for this Library Fair. They come from throughout the island’s individual homes, estate sales, house cleanings, etc. We sort and store them until the Fair. We then sell them for 50 cents to a dollar. The profits from the Fair provide many of the special extras that we enjoy when we make use of this awesome Library.

We have it on the highest authority that many regulars to the Fair will purchase books to read throughout the year, re-donate them and purchase different books the following year. This is a good definition of a win-win situation.

While the sale of books is the highlight of the Library Fair, it is NOT all there is. The Library grounds will be the venue for music during the Fair as well as vendors providing food, crafts and more.
