Orcas' own Bison Antiquus, whose skull was found in 2009, changing scientists' thoughts about early populations in North America

Sunday July 17 will be a unique opportunity to see the Bison skull fossil at the very locale where it was discovered in Olga . . . . . and have a great time to boot!

Tony and Nancy Ayer, who owned  the property where Bison Antiquus was found during an excavation into a pond,  invite guests to attend this fund-raiser as a kick-off for future growth to transform the Orcas Museum into “a museum worthy of world-class recognition.”

Three visiting expert scientists will be on hand to discuss the significance of this very rare find, which has completely challenged the archeological theories:

  • The bison skull is the most complete skull of its size to have ever been found in the world.
  • It has been carbon dated to 14,000 years
  •  The skull and collection of over 90 bones was in the top 10 of the most significant scientific discoveries in the WORLD in 2009 (Discover Magazine).
  •  This discovery will change the science textbooks.

Steve Kenady and Bill Buchan prepare the bison skull for its close-up. A casting of the skull is on public display at the museum in Eastsound, as is the original skull.

The gathering , from 4 to 7 p.m.will feature live music by Gene Nery & Martin Lund, and catering by the Orcas Store.

All are welcome to join the event. For more information and to r.s.v.p.  call 376-4849, or click here: https://orcasmuseum.org/Orcas_Bison_Bash.html
