Orcas Center Directors, Past, Present and Past: Barbara Courtney, Kara O'Toole and Candace Ver Brugghen at the 2011 Annual Membership meeting

This year is the 25th Anniversary of Orcas Center, and two major annual awards were bestowed on two very deserving members of the community at the March 13, 2011 Annual Membership Meeting and party.

In addition, the Orcas Center Board of Directors officially welcomed new Executve Artistic Director Kara O’Toole at the gathering last Sunday.

Pierrette Guimond, honored by Orcas Center

Pierrette Guimond received the 25th Margaret Exton award for volunteer service and Beth Baker was awarded the 18th Bunny award for best actor of the year.

Pierrette has been the #1 grounds volunteer at Orcas Center, working tirelessly on the Center’s landscaping for over two years. She consistently recruits other grounds volunteers, organizes two student work parties per year, in addition to plying her tools to the complicated gardens and foliage surrounding the Center.

Beth Baker, in the role of "Mama Rose" for last year's performance of "Gypsy."

Beth is a “triple threat,” an actor, singer and dancer.  She is beloved to Orcas audiences for her appearances in eight major Orcas Center productions – from “On Golden Pond”  in 1995, to “Jesus Christ Superstar” in 2002, to her 2010 “role of a lifetime,” Mama Rose in “Gypsy.”
